In a recent announcement that sparked excitement across Grounds, UVA revealed its latest initiative in conjunction with one of the brands most beloved by students: Lululemon. Known for its high-quality and comfortable athleisure, Lululemon is a staple in many students’ everyday attire.
Already having done collections with various other large universities across the country, Lululemon is no stranger to these collaborations. Lululemon’s Campus Program partners with universities to bring everyone’s favorite workout wear directly to students. Some of the schools already included in the program are New York University, Stanford, UCLA, and University of Florida, all of which have yielded much success and positive feedback.
Several weeks ago, the UVA Instagram account posted a lighthearted video featuring students clad in what was unmistakably Lululemon clothing adorned with the UVA logo. While the video itself was unrelated to the launch, several sharp-eyed followers noticed the branded sweaters and pointed them out in the comment section below that post. Since this was shared prior to the official announcement of the release on any UVA-affiliated social media, the anticipation was starting to brew.
Shortly after this teaser, the UVA Bookstore officially released notice that the UVA X Lululemon collection would be available starting November 15 and 16. There was a catch, though: for these first two days, only shoppers with a scheduled time slot got the chance to see and buy the products. Although this appointment system was frustrating to some eager shoppers, it was to offset the “overwhelming interest and full schedule” regarding this launch.
The way to be one of the first lucky shoppers was to be a participant at one of two fitness classes: either Zumba or Power Yoga, hosted in the Bookstore. Attendance at either of these classes on November 15 guaranteed a time slot to purchase iems before it was open to the public. For those who missed the chance at getting a spot for early access, the launch was available without any need for appointment starting last Sunday.
When I arrived at the bookstore on Sunday, there were other early birds perusing the clothing. It was 11:08 a.m., just eight minutes after the Bookstore opened its doors, and the Lululemon section was already hopping. As I made my first round, workers flitted in and out, restocking the items as they flew off the racks. At first glance, the setup looked just like any other Lululemon store—very official and neatly organized. There were all the popular and most coveted products with the UVA logo stamped on them.
Among the items in the collection, some of the standouts are the famous Align leggings, now featuring the UVA logo subtly placed on the calf: the perfect blend of functionality and school spirit. For cooler days ahead, the Scuba hoodie is also a staple piece for those looking to showcase UVA pride but stay warm. The beloved Align tanks were available in orange and blue, ideal for both workouts and casual everyday wear. To round out the collection, there were tennis skirts, sweatpants, and running shorts available in similar styles, emphasizing the versatility of the brand and its integration of UVA’s branding.
Now, the next question that fans of this collaboration are left wondering is- when will the clothing be available online? For those studying abroad or alumni living far away, an online option would allow others to support the bookstore and take part in this limited collection. As demand continues to surge, it seems fitting that an online store is inevitable to meet the demand of supporters.
