The No. 15 Virginia Cavaliers delivered yet another magnificent and resilient performance Saturday night, defeating the Ohio State Buckeyes 70-66 at Bridgestone Arena in the Nashville Hoops Showdown. Ohio State was powered by a phenomenal individual performance from Bruce Thornton, who scored a sensational 28 points. Thornton also completed the 500th assist of his career, a milestone that underscores his importance to the Buckeyes’ offense and playmaking prowess. His ability to control the court and create opportunities kept OSU competitive through the contest. Meanwhile, Amare Bynum contributed 15 points and six rebounds to the Buckeye offense, providing valuable support in this fiercely competitive matchup.
The Buckeyes were further challenged by the absence of starting guard John Mobley Jr., who was sidelined indefinitely with a hand injury. Averaging more than 15 points per game, Mobley’s absence undeniably limited OSU’s offensive depth and versatility.
