Countless UVA students’ prayers about having a new and well-liked restaurant on the Corner have been answered. The very popular chicken tender restaurant Raising Cane’s will open in the old location of Sheetz, 1517 University Avenue, on UVA’s corner, in addition to its current location at 1805 Emmet St.
Cane’s is a beloved restaurant among many in Charlottesville for its crispy and juicy chicken tenders, delicious crinkle cut fries, mouth-watering Texas toast, and its crown jewel: the unbelievably tasty dip that is Cane’s Sauce.
However, with the current Emmet St. location, students have to drive through near-constantly harsh and slow traffic to get to the restaurant, to then wait in the infamous “Cane’s Lane” on Route 29, where the line of cars for the Cane’s drive-thru backs up traffic all the way past the Hydraulic Road light, causing a quite painful and frustrating experience to get their food. First Years can’t even get there due to their lack of having cars, so much of what Cane’s has to offer is not even accessible to 25% of the undergraduate body.
This new location on the corner will solve each and every one of those problems. The restaurant is planning construction to begin this winter and a full opening is planned for the beginning of the Fall 2023 semester. The restaurant will offer its full menu and will feature “custom decorations inside of it that will reflect the community, including University decals hanging on the walls,” and at the time of its opening is planning to have “several partnerships with the University and student organizations” (per Julia Doyle, Cane’s Director of Public Relations).
There is not any known information about possible late-night hours.
This new location on the UVA Corner is being highly looked-forward to by students and Raising Cane’s officials.
