At about 5:13 p.m., shots were fired in the 1300 Block of West Main Street, right near Asado Wing & Taco Company.
Timothy Longo, the Associate Vice President for Safety and Security and Chief of Police, sent out an email blast to students at 6:08 p.m. The email stated that police found shell casings in the locations where shots were heard. No injuries have been reported; however, there remains a heavy police presence. A suspect description was not provided.
The UVA Police advise students to contact Safe Walk if they would like to request an escort to and from locations. Additionally, UTS OnDemand can be used as a free shuttle service to move safely.
